“The Oscars sometimes can feel like a little bit of a letdown fashion-wise after all of the build up of it being Hollywood’s biggest night, everybody goes in with a very high bar. But, from what I’ve been hearing from other editors and how I feel personally this is an Oscars red carpet that it just delivered with look after look after look of feeing lively and colorful and a lot of fun to watch unfold.”

“Renate Reinsve from ‘Sentimental Value’ wore a very minimalist in terms of silhouette gown by Louis Vuitton that was strapless with a dramatic slit in the leg. She didn’t even wear much jewelry with it. She had her hair very simply pulled back with that bright color and that stark silhouette. Instant best dressed for me.”

“This has been a big night for feathers. Plumage is absolutely everywhere, trimming skirts, on sleeves, on the kind of necklines of a great strapless bodice. Teyana Taylor, I think, is the best dressed example of this trend. She wore an incredible custom Chanel gown that has an exaggerated black and white feather skirt accented by a more tight fitting bodice that is a twist for Chanel and a twist for her that makes a perfect red carpet combination.”

“We’re finally ready to branch out from neutrals and minimalism into a more expanded palette. A couple of stars who embodied this are Chase Infiniti for one and a really lovely custom Louis Vuitton gown. That’s a gorgeous shade of lilac, not a common color that you see on the red carpet so it really popped. Jessie Buckley nominated for best actress also wore a gorgeous two-tone Chanel gown with kind of a lipstick red on top and peony pink throughout the skirt.”

“There have been some fun homages to fashion history through either reinterpreting vintage jewelry designs or pulling from a big brand’s archive. So, Elle Fanning, for example, wore Cartier jewelry from 1903 tonight and the wisteria petals in her jewelry matched those on her Givenchy dress.”
